TURA: One of the two A’chik National Cooperative Army (ANCA) members Jiten Lyngdoh, who had managed to escape on Monday from a police lock up, was caught on Tuesday by vigilant villagers at Niyapali, near Damas in North Garo Hills, along Assam-Meghalaya border.
Lyngdoh along with the outfit’s self-styled chairman William A. Sangma had managed to escape from Mendipathar police lock up.
Both of them were arrested by Assam police from Agia in Goalpara district on Saturday and handed over to Meghalaya counterpart.
Police sources informed that Jiten Lyngdoh was apprehended by the public near Damas, Neapoli Area in North Garo Hills and later handed over to police.
Meanwhile, an operative of the ASAK militant outfit, which is active in the Garo Hills region, today surrendered at Dalu police station with a 7.65 pistol and five live rounds. Sengkham R Marak deserted the parent GNLA in 2011 and joined the ASAK and was made the outfit’s commander of Khasi Hills, the police added.
