NE Univ teachers’ meet

SHILLONG: The confederation of the North-Eastern Central Universities Teachers’ Associations, a body formed in 2012 by participation of teachers of the central universities of North-eastern region will have its third annual meeting-cum-summit from August 29. The meet is hosted by North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) at NEHU Shillong.

The respective associations of the central universities of the region have confirmed their support and participation to the meeting which is expected to finalize the vision for higher education in the region, charter of demands and other organizational aspects.

The body has already demanded steps towards qualitative enhancement of higher education and the university system in Northeastern region. It demanded 10% of the total Union Budget spent on higher education for the region in line with the policy of the Central Government. The meet will work out strategies to impress upon the central government the need to pursue cohesive and bold initiatives in the field of higher education by giving due space to all the stakeholders in the decision making process of the central universities.

The NEHUTA expects that the two day meet will be able to throw significant light on the various aspects of funding, representation of stakeholders and other related academic and management issues to bring in a better academic environment for the region.
