SHILLONG: In the wake of its proposal to bring about certain amendments to the Catchment Areas Act, the State Government has forwarded the matter to the Law Department for its consent.

This was informed by Forest and Environment Minister, Prestone Tynsong recently.

The proposed amendment to the Meghalaya Protection of Catchment Areas Act, 1990 has been hanging fire for the last three years.

The State Government has not been able to move forward with the proposed amendments due to the peculiar land tenure system prevalent in the State.
