SHILLONG: Climate Change Adaptation in the North Eastern Region (CCA-NER) is a bilateral project between the Union Government and the Federal Government of Germany. The Project aims to strengthen the adaptive capacities of people and various organisations and institutions thus enabling them to cope better with the impacts of climate change. The CCA-NER project is presently being implemented in Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland.

In Meghalaya it is being implemented in close coordination with the Department of Planning. Among the various activities of the Project, a strong focus on institutional capacity building on climate change and adaptation related issues has been prioritized as it was felt that awareness raising and sensitization on issues related to climate change at various levels is the need of the hour.

The mandate to sensitize and create awareness on climate change and adaptation related issues right to the community level will be achieved through a multi-tier approach.

As a first step, a total of nine selected officials from Meghalaya, designated as State Level Master Trainers, have been trained by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, over a series of courses addressing various issues related to climate change, leadership and gender and participatory methods using SARAR tools and picture series over the span of two years.
