Workshop on journalism in city

 SHILLONG: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) in collaboration with ICARE and supported by JM Foundation for Excellence in Journalism, Mumbai is organising a one-day workshop on ‘Journalism- the Citizen’s Role, Media Ethics and Practice’ on the MLCU premises on August 25 at 10 am. The workshop will also look at the critical role of citizen journalism, an emerging trend in the rapidly changing scenario of the media today.

Minister for Information & Public Relations AT Mandal will inaugurate the function. The workshop will be led by Shishir Joshi, former group director, Midday newspaper and with over two decades of experience in print and broadcast journalism. Joshi is the co-founder JM Foundation, Mumbai. Joshi will lead the workshop with the theme, ‘News writing, media ethics, challenges and conflicts, print and broadcast, citizen journalism’.

The workshop will have two back to back panel discussions on “The media and the readership: Does anyone care?” Participants will be Toki Blah, Paul Lyngdoh, RM Mishra, Mamang Dai and Prof David Syiemlieh to be moderated by Patricia Mukhim, Editor, The Shillong Times.

The next panel is ‘Media ownership: the challenge of staying neutral,l’ to be moderated by Shishir Joshi. The panelists are David Laiftlang, Manas Chaudhuri, BR Blah and KK Jhunjhunwala Papers will be presented by Dr Shakil Ahammad, DIPR and RG Lyngdoh, former Home Minister and currently the CEO LIFCOM, MRDS.

Media students from different institutes, students of IIM Shillong, Social Work students from St Edmunds College and MLCU, media practitioners, NGOs and other individuals are expected to attend the workshop.
