SHILLONG: The UDP has given one week time to HSPDP to respond to its demand for change of leadership of the ruling coalition in KHADC – All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA).

Informing this here on Saturday, UDP working president Bindo M Lanong said that his party was awaiting response from the HSPDP over its demand for removal of Ardent Basaiawmoit from the post of CEM.

Two days back UDP sent a letter to HSPDP seeking removal of Basaiawmoit.

Reiterating UDP MDCs allegation that Basaiawmoit did not give free hand to the MDCs to run their respective departments, Lanong said that the UDP MDCs, who are in the executive committee, had written atleast two times to Basiawmoit expressing their dissatisfaction over his style of functioning.

“We tried to prevail on our MDCs to discuss the matter, but they want to move out of the EC,” the senior UDP leader said.

Asked if the party would withdraw from the coalition if HSPDP refuses to remove Basaiawmoit, Lanong said, “No such proposal is in our agenda as of now.”

He also stated if there is no response from HSPDP within a week, then the party would definitely decide its future course of action.

Earlier, KHNAM which is a coalition partner of ARPA had offered to act as a ‘mediator’ to resolve the ongoing crisis.
