UDP to decide next move shortly
SHILLONG: A day after being snubbed by HSPDP over its demand for change of leadership in the ruling coalition — All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) — in KHADC, UDP on Wednesday indicated that the party will meet next week to decide its future course of action.
UDP had demanded removal of Ardent Basaiawmoit from the post of CEM after several party MDCs expressed their unhappiness over the HSPDP leader’s style of functioning.
The UDP working president Bindo M Lanong on Wednesday said the party would invite all the unhappy MDCs for their suggestions.
“The party had anticipated that Basaiawmoit will not be removed,” Lanong admitted.
KHNAM offer: Meanwhile, KHNAM has decided to facilitate a joint meeting of UDP and HSPDP to resolve the ongoing crisis in the KHADC.
“We have fixed the meeting on September 15 to be held at the Dorbar Hall of Jaiaw Shyiap at 2 pm. We hope that the meeting will be able to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Council,” KHNAM spokesperson Pynshai M Syiem informed after a meeting of the party held here on Wednesday.
Syiem hoped that the attempt of the party to act as a ‘mediator’ would bring some positive outcome.
“We have taken this initiative to ensure that the ruling coalition in the KHADC completes
“We have taking this initiative since we would want the aspiration of many of the people to see that the ruling coaltion in the KHADC completes its full term,” KHNAM spokesperson said.
Earlier on Tuesday, HSPDP has rejected UDP’s demand for change of leadership in the ruling coalition of KHADC which means incumbent CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit will continue to head the All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA).
Informing this to newsmen after a crucial meeting of the party held here on Tuesday, HSPDP joint secretary Witting Mawsor said the UDP’s demand for change of leadership did not hold much water and the party did not find any plausible reason to replace Basaiawmoit.
