SHILLONG: In order to provide some leisure to the personnel who are far away from home, the 5th MLP Battalion in New Delhi has created a one of its kind mini library. Besides improving literacy, the intention of the project is to provide some leisure time while inculcating a reading habit amongst the personnel.

Books on subjects like short stories, great leaders, folk lore, historical facts, freedom fighters and others in major languages, English, Khasi, Garo and Hindi are kept in this library.

Taking a step further, the Battalion has written to all the State Houses and Bhavans in New Delhi to donate books to promote knowledge about their States and received immense response.

Since the Battalion personnel are deployed all over Delhi city, a mobile library has also been organized for distribution of the books in their respective place of stay.

This project has been a blessing for the personnel of 5th MLP (3rd IR) Battalion. Commandant, FG Kharshiing, while inaugurating the mini library known as the 5th Battalion Book House, appreciated the efforts of his staff to make this project a success.

He also appealed to all book lovers in Meghalaya to donate books towards the library which will go a long way in improving the morale, welfare and literacy of the 5th MLP personnel posted in the national capital.
