Shillong: The KSU units of Phudkroh and Ranikor have urged the MeECL to install meter in every household of the area.

According to the president of KSU’s Phudkroh Unit in West Khasi Hills, Marcony Thongni non-availability of meter system has created trouble for local people saying as per the directives of the MeECL every household has to pay a fixed amount of Rs 165 per month while BPL families have to pay Rs 65 per month. “But last month, the amount was suddenly increased to Rs 295 from Rs 165,” he said.

The association also alleged that power supply to this area had been erratic.

“I think by bringing metering system, the distribution of electricity and payment of bills will be fair and square”, said Thongni.

In this regards, the association met the Chief Engineer of MeECL on Wednesday apprising him of the problems being faced by the villagers. The Chief Engineer assured them that an inspection would be carried out by MeECL in this connection.
