Refuse to sit for re-examination
TURA: Even as the All Garo Hills Adhoc Lower Primary School Teachers’ Association/Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSALP/UPSTA) had earlier taken a decision to abide by the MBOSE ruling making it mandatory for teachers securing below 45% in the HSSLC/PU examinations to reappear in the same, many of the teachers under different teachers’ organizations have expressed opposition to the notification of the education board firmly asserting that they would fight against it.
With regard to the issue, the AGHALPSTA recently met Tura MP, Purno A Sangma and held prolonged deliberations where the leader allegedly informed them that the notification was not from the Centre but made at the state level and assured them that he would personally look into it.
The AGHALPSTA argued that it would be impossible for the teachers to reappear in the examinations as many of them already had families of their own which would prevent them from preparing for the tests in view of the various responsibilities that require their attention.
It said that even if the NCTE norms were to be applied, the rule should have come into practice from the year in which it was first framed. It questioned as to why the teachers who were appointed not sooner than September 3, 2011 were being targeted now if they had not been rejected and were found to be qualified during the time of appointment.
Meanwhile, in a separate release the Gambegre Block SSALP/UP School Teachers’ Association (GBSSALPUPSTA) has also slammed the notification issued by the MBOSE.
It claimed that the earlier statement issued by the AGHSSALP/UPSTA accepting the MBOSE notification was not made with the approval of majority of the teachers.
“Reappearing in the examination will not bring any benefits to the teachers. We appeal to the government to withdraw the notification and to consider other measures to improve teaching standards in the state,” the GBSSALPUPSTA stated.
