SHILLONG: With a budget of Rs 1.40 crore, the State Government will organise ’18 Degrees’, a festival to showcase talents of the youth at State Central Library premises from October 9-11.
The Department of Arts and Culture will present the second edition of 18 Degrees Fest 2014 for three days starting October 9.
While last year’s budget was pegged at Rs.90 lakh, there is an allocation of Rs 1.40 crore for this year’s edition of the festival since national and international artists will be present during the three-day event.
The name ’18 Degrees’ was chosen to represent the average temperature (in Celsius) of Shillong throughout the year and the festival aims at strengthening cultural diversity.
Briefing reporters on Tuesday, Director, Arts and Culture, M. War Nongbri, said that the platform will provide an outlet for young people to express their artistic talents.
The programmes will include State-level cultural competitions, North East cultural performances, cartooning, painting, literature, films, art installations, fashion show, Cosplay, B-Boying, paintball, live national and international music, international acrobats and others.
Nongbri said that an outlet will be set up at State Central Library premises, the venue of the festival to help the flood affected victims by way of cash and clothes donated by visitors.
