SHILLONG: Nongskhen MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri (Independent) finally retained her place in the KHADC Executive Committee after KHNAM MDC James Ban Basaiawmoit (Mawkhar) sacrificed himself to accommodate her in the new EC led by Adelbert Nongrum.

Basaiawmoit had initially made the offer to step down in order to allow an HSPDP MDC to be accommodated in the EC after the party put pressure on the new CEM (Adelbert Nongrum) to induct another MDC from the party in the EC during the crucial ARPA meeting held on October 15.

Following stiff opposition from a section of KHNAM MDCs who were against Basaiawmoit’s offer, Nongrum was forced to announce his intention to drop Kharpuri from the EC.

However, on Friday, Basaiawmoit made his exit from the EC clearing all hurdles for Kharpuri.

KHNAM president Pyndapborthiaw Saibon on Friday was all praise for Basaiawmoit saying that he had sacrificed his place in the EC for the sake of the ARPA.

“He (Basaiawmoit) was compelled to take this decision to accommodate the demand of the HSPDP MDCs,” Saibon after a meeting of the party here, while expressing hope that the HSPDP would now be satisfied and would be unable to find any more fault with the KHNAM MDCs.

“I want to make it very clear that there should not be any kind of doubt on account of the visit of UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh to the Council to greet Nongrum. We know that Lyngdoh had tried to dissolve KHNAM but now we are all friends,” Saibon added.
