SHILLONG:  In a coincidence or not, a day before the foundation stone laying ceremony for the permanent building for the juveniles  ( Photo on page 10) , two boys fled away from the  juvenile home at Cleve Colony here.
According to police, two boys aged 16 and 17 were reported missing from Children’ s Home at  Cleve Colony from October 17.
The juvenile inmates are currently lodged at a dilapidated rented accommodation at Cleve Colony.
Earlier in July this year, six boys aged between 14 and 17 fled from the Cleve Colony   observation home. Majority of them, however, returned later.
As per the recent information provided by the social welfare department, for the last five years, 11 juveniles fled away from the observation homes (Shillong-5, Tura-4 and two girls from Shillong).
Lack of proper security coupledwith congestion in the temporary shelter home provides an opportunity for the juveniles to flee the shelter home.
However, with the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of new building for the juveniles at Mawdiangdiang, the Government hopeed to address the constrains.
