SHILLONG: The KSU Mawprem Circle and the FKJGP Nongthymmai Circle have slammed the alleged police high handedness in arresting their members on Thursday.

A police team had picked up KSU and FKJGP members after they prevented FCI godown-bound trucks from entering Mawlai. The members of the pressure group were also allegedly assaulted by the cops.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the FKJGP Nongthymmai Circle termed the alleged assault and subsequent arrest of their members as misuse of power by the Special Operation Team (SOT) personnel “who have been given a free hand by top officials.”

“Members of NGOs do not deserve to be assaulted in this manner,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, KSU Mawprem Circle vice president, A Thabah said that there is no justification on the arrest made by the police.

“The members were preventing the trucks (from entering Mawlai) since the administration did not take any steps to address the problem of traffic congestion near the FCI godown at Mawlai Nongmali raised by them,” the KSU leader said.
