SHILLONG: The new initiative of the Meghalaya Transport System of launching the Guwahati-Shillong Sumo service has been appreciated by the people and response has been good so far, MTC Deputy Manager (Operations) A. Pariat said on Monday.
Pariat informed that MTC was operating ten Sumos at the moment on the Guwahati-Shillong route and five more vehicles would be pressed into service soon.
Overwhelmed with the response from the people, the MTC is contemplating to operate a Shillong-Tura Sumo service.
The rate per passenger has been fixed at Rs.180 on the Guwahati-Shillong route, Pariat informed, adding that the MTC vehicles were more comfortable with AC facilities and had a capacity of only seven unlike the Tourist Sumos which carry ten passengers.
