SHILLONG: The much-hyped Sohra Eco Restoration Project is back on track after initial hiccup.

Informing this here on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister and in-charge of Soil and Water Conservation Department Rowell Lyngdoh said that execution of the project has resumed after the State Planning Board released fund.

It may be mentioned that the State Government last year had decided to withdraw the budget provision of Rs 27 crore which had been earmarked for the project and the first and second installments — Rs 16 crore and Rs 18 crore respectively–had already been utilized.

“Funds are now being used as per plans and the project is back on track,” Lyngdoh said.

The six-year scheme ‘Sohra Ecological Project for Restoration of Degraded Lands under Sohra Plateau’ has approval of the Planning Commission. Initially Rs 87.16 crore was earmarked for the project, execution of which started in 2010.
