Truckers’ body chief assaults scribes

JOWAI: The president of the Jaintia Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) Balen Thubru has allegedly assaulted two media persons who went to cover illegal transportation coal violating NGT ban.

The incident took place at Soomer, Mihmyntdu near Jowai at around 9:30 pm on Monday.

Injured media persons are Ruhi Phawa of U Ri-luk Youtube Online News Channel and his colleague Paul Lamare.

“Thubru, who was in inebriated condition, assaulted us when we were taking video footage of all trucks carrying coal illegally violating the NGT order,” Lamare said.

The truckers reportedly snatched the video camera of Ruhi. Later, Phramer police took the duo to Ialong Civil Hospital. A case against Thubru and his accomplices has been registered.
