St. Edmund’s win Inter College Cricket tourney for 4th time

SHILLONG:  St. Edmund’s defeated St. Anthony’s College by 5 wickets in the final to bag the Inter College Cricket Tournament 2014 organised by the Sports Department North Eastern Hill University ( NEHU) at the SCA Cricket Ground Poloon Friday.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, St. Anthony’s College was dismissed for 102 runs in 25.3 overs.
St. Edmund’s started positively by taking quick wickets and were backed by few spectacular catches and good fielding.
Bijay Deb scored 12 runs of 14 balls and Vijay Ghosh scored 19 runs of 26 balls while Rajdeep Dutta took 2/15 runs of 5 overs and Krishna Thapa took 2/28 runs of five overs.
In reply, St. Edmund’s College made the score look small reaching the target of 103 runs losing 5 wickets in 22.5 overs.
Abhay Kumar Rai scored 33 not out of 34 balls and Raja Valmiki scored 22 runs of 27 balls while Swarajeet Das took 1/15 runs of 3 overs and Gilbert Kharsyiemlieh took 2/16 runs of 4 overs.
This is the fourth consecutive victory for St. Edmund’s in the Inter College Tournament.
The Chief Guest Acting Vice Chancellor of NEHU Prof P. Shukla, Dr S.N. Lamare, Teacher in charge Sports NEHU, L.R.S. Pyngrope, Vice President SCA gave away the prizes.
