Chennai: Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, T. Meenakumari, has been appointed Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission.
Governor K. Rosaiah appointed Meenakumari to the post, which was lying vacant, for a period of five years, a gazette notification said here on Sunday.
The post was lying vacant since 2011 and the Supreme Court had on September 16 asked the Tamil Nadu government to take appropriate steps to expeditiously fill it up.
It may be reminded that Meenakumari had, earlier, declined an offer from the Meghalaya Government to head the State Human Rights panel. (PTI)
