HNLC peace talks

SHILLONG: The pressure groups, KSU and FKJGP have urged the State Government to seriously consider the offer for dialogue with HNLC by immediately appointing a mediator so that the peace initiative can be pushed forward.

While the KSU had asked the State Government to accept the call for talks offer made by the HNLC to bring lasting peaceful solution to the present standoff, the FKJGP said that it hoped that the peace talks will reach its logical conclusion and take the State and the people towards permanent peace and economic prosperity.

KSU president Daniel Khyriem said that it would be in the fitness of things for the State Government to make serious efforts to identify and appoint a mediator since the HNLC has offered unconditional talks and State Government also accepted the offer in principle.

It may be mentioned that earlier Frederick Kharmawphlang, Sambormi Lyngdoh, and a school teacher from West Khasi Hills have reportedly joined the outfit .

“It is generally accepted that youths are prone to being emotional which is incendiary material that we do not need at this critical time,” KSU said.

The KSU leader also said that Garo Hills is one such example where the present alarming scenario could have been avoided had the political leadership taken swift and serious steps to invite the groups that were spreading mayhem in that part of the state.

He also asserted that State Government has to show its maturity in this matter so that no more youths will be forced to take extreme steps by taking up their arms in an attempt to achieve their objectives.
