NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday deferred the hearing of the high profile defamation case against Tura MP Purno Sangma filed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma after the former’s counsel sought more time to file reply.
The Shillong Times and Times Now, which have been made parties in the case, were represented by their respective advocates.
“But these news organizations are only asked by the aggrieved party to tender apology”, Atul Chitely, the counsel of the Chief Minister said.
The High Court has fixed February 12 as the next date for hearing.
Earlier on October 13, the Delhi High Court had issued an interim directive to Purno for restraining himself from making any further defamatory statement against Chief Minister
The Chief Minister had slapped Rs 25 crore defamation case on Purno for the latter’s allegation that the Chief Minister is the ‘common chairman of all militant outfits operating in the state’.
