CM justifies political appointments

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has said that the political appointments in the present MUA Government is less than 60 percent of the appointments which were made in preceding years.

Replying to a cut motion on the fourth day of the winter session of the Assembly on Wednesday, Sangma said that in a democratic setup, there would always be situations when people are required to be given an opportunity to participate in the functioning of the government through various boards.

Stating that the government has been very careful on political appointments, he added that appointments were made only when it was necessary.

Earlier, moving the motion James Sangma sought certain clarifications on demand for additional amount of Rs 2152605 for administrative services including expenditure incurred for training of five IAS officers and expenditure for payment of wages, domestic travel expenses, vice chairman of the State Level Public Grievances Committee.

According to the Chief Minister, Government sends officers for various training and five officers were sent for induction training in Mussourie.
