Shillong: Young couples hoping to share intimate moments with each other till late in the evening at Ward’s Lake and Lady Hydari Park might have to rethink about their plans now.

The FKJGP has decided to issue a quit notice with effect from September 1 (Thursday) to all young couples who indulge in various kind of indecent behaviour at these two public places which also finds mention in the tourists’ guide books.

“We have found that young couples share intimate moments without showing any respect or concern for passers-by, especially women and children,” FKJGP East Khasi Hills information secretary Kitboklang Nongphlang said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said that they have received numerous complaints from families and individuals who visit these places and face embarrassment due to the disrespect shown by the young couples.

He also said that the most shocking part is that they have, on several occasions, also found children and students in school uniform involved in these immoral acts in these public places.

“We would deploy volunteers to ensure that nobody would dare to commit any nuisance or activity that directly affects the pedestrians or people visiting these public places,” Nongphlang added.

“It is pretty sad to see young people hug and kiss in the open. I am afraid that this might have a huge negative impact on the young minds”, he said, adding, “Any young couple caught indulging in this kind of indecent behaviour would be strongly dealt with since their action is affecting the society as a whole”.
