Govt to announce name of interlocutor shortly, House told
SHILLONG: The State Government has compiled a few names for the appointment of interlocutor to hold talks with the proscribed HNLC.
Replying to a call attention moved by Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit in the Assembly on Friday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the State Government has prepared a list of names and very soon Government would identify the acceptable-to-all interlocutor.
While appreciating the HNLC for its offer for talks, Sangma said that the process of identifying the interlocutor has started and hoped that the same would be over soon.
The Chief Minister also said that the banned outfit now should desist from carrying out any unlawful activities and completely refrain from recruiting new cadres.
Earlier, the rebel outfit had offered to hold unconditional talks but threw the ball at the State Government’s court to take the initiative. It may be mentioned that the HNLC was formed on August 14, 1987.
On the recent agreed text settlement with ANVC, the Chief Minister asserted that the ANVC is expected to surrender their arms in the first week of December which would pave the way for the disbandment of the outfit.
The ANVC, ANVC-B, State Government and Union Home Ministry had signed the agreed text settlement on September 24 this year in New Delhi.
He also said that the process of disbanding of ANVC would be completed by the first fortnight of December.
The agreed text for settlement inked between Central Government, State Government, ANVC and ANVC-B was tabled in the Assembly on Friday by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
The tripartite pact signed on September 24 in the presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the Chief Minister also includes increasing the numbers of members to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council from 30 to 40, and giving the tribal councils additional powers in administration and organisation within its jurisdiction.
