SHILLONG: Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India, under IEC programme organized a painting competition for school students of sixth, seventh and eighth standard on the theme ‘Save a Drop, Save the Future’ on Saturday at Anton Hall, Laitumkrah.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Raghubir Singh, Dy. Director General, Geological Survey of India, NER, Shillong as Chief Guest Jaya Kalra, Director, Jharokha Art Institution, Shillong and Ratul Baruah, Editor, Meghalaya Guardian were present as Guests of Honour.
The function was presided over by Dr. Utpal Gogoi, Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, North East Region, Guwahati.
Raghubir Singh along with other dignitaries emphasized on conservation of this precious natural resource throughout the country on this auspicious occasion.
An empowered committee of jury members comprising of renowned national and international artists hailing from Shillong initially selected fifty best paintings from a total of 3824 students from 122 schools from all over Meghalaya.
First, Second and Third Prizes as well as 10 Consolation Prizes were awarded with trophies, certificates and cash awards.
Kunal Paul, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Happy Valley, East Khasi Hills bagged the first prize carrying a cash reward of Rs. 10,000/-, N Pompi Devi, St. Mary’s H.S. School Shillong, East Khasi Hills bagged the second prize carrying a cash reward of Rs. 8,000/- along with Satarupa Roy, Kendriya Vidyalaya, EAC Upper Shillong, East Khasi Hills bagged the third prize carrying a cash reward of Rs. 5,000/-.
The winners of the first, second and third prize in the State level competition will be invited to participate in the National Painting Competition at New Delhi on December.
