GSU threatens to harden stand, calls for CM’s intervention

TURA: With countless delays being encountered in the appointment of a full-fledged deputy commissioner for Baghmara, the headquarters of South Garo Hills, the people of the district are facing numerous difficulties both in personal and official works most of which have remained pending.

The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Southern Zone which has been following up the issue and made several demands time and again for the appointment of the District Head has this time round started to question the sincerity of the State Government as well as the district administration on the issue.

“What is the reason for such delay? We have raised the issue with the district administration many times and every time we were assured by officials that the DC would occupy his chair the following week. Then why is it that there is still no full-fledged DC in the district till date?” Chingsrang Marak, the publicity secretary of the Union questioned.

Exasperated by the adamant attitude of the concerned authorities towards its genuine demand the Union said it had bowed to the will of the administration for too long and warned it would not be coerced into submission if it were to agitate on the issue.

“We reiterate our demand for the immediate appointment of a full-fledged DC,” it said and appealed to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to personally look into the matter.
