Ranji Trophy: Assam make solid start against Jharkhand

Guwahati: Pallavkumar Das and Sibsankar Roy struck half centuries as Assam made a solid start to their second innings in their Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match against Jharkhand here on Tuesday.

At stumps on the third and penultimate day at the Nehru Stadium, Assam were 157/2 in 63 overs with Das and Roy batting on 75 and 60 respectively.

Earlier, resuming on their overnight score of 196/4, Jharkhand were all out for 217 in 86.3 overs with the team’s lower- order batting coming a cropper.

Dhiraj Goswami returned impressive figures of 4/20 for Assam. Assam now lead the visitors by 131 runs with eight wickets in hand.

Assam: 191 and 157 for 2 in 63 overs (Pallavkumar Das 75 not out, Sibsankar Roy 63 not out)

Jharkhand 1st innings: 217 all out in 86.3 overs (Ishan Kishan 60; Dhiraj Goswami 4/20).

While Tripura vs Services match, Tripura produced a solid batting display to pile on 430 all out in their first innings as their Ranji Trophy cricket match against Services headed towards a draw on the third and penultimate day here on Tuesday.

After Yogesh Takawale’s fine 89 yesterday, captain Rajesh Banik and Kaushal Acharjee hit 93 and 83 respectively to take Tripura to a big score as they added 163 runs today from 54 overs after resuming at overnight 267 for 5 at the Palam A Ground. Banik, who missed a century by seven runs, and Acharjee added 178 runs for the sixth wicket to do bulk of the scoring for Tripura. Banik hit 13 for in his 174-ball innings while Acharjee struck 11 boundaries in his 198-ball innings. For Services, Suraj Yadav grabbed three wickets while Roshan Raj and Saurabh Kumar chipped in with two wickets apiece. Abhishek Sakuja and Aman Sharma took a wicket each. (PTI)
