Woman, daughters commit suicide

GHAZIABAD: A 45-year-old woman and her two daughters allegedly committed suicide consuming some poisonous substance in Shastri Nagar here in the district, police said on Wednesday. Sunita and her two daughters- Preeti (17) and Prerna (19) were found lying unconscious at their residence by the woman’s husband Rakesh last evening, and were rushed to the hospital, SP (city) J K Shahi said. Sunita and Preeti died on Tuesday afternoon while Prerna breathed her last late in the night, Shahi said, adding prima facie it seems that “domestic dispute could be the reason behind the extreme step”. Further investigations into the case was on. (PTI)

Eleven pilgrims injured

BAREILLY (UP): Eleven pilgrims were injured when the tractor-trolley in which they were travelling overturned in neighbouring Shahjahanpur district on Wednesday. The pilgrims, hailing from Lakhimpur Kheri, were on their way to Dhai ghat to attend a Ganga fair when their vehicle was hit by a mini-truck near Mukrampur village on Mohamaddi road, police said. The tractor-trolley overturned injuring 11 pilgrims, they said. The injured were hospitalised, police said. (PTI)

Tour operator held with pistol

NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old travel operator was arrested at a metro station in south-west Delhi and an unlicensed pistol was recovered from him, police said on Wednesday. Ravi Bharat was apprehended from Dwarka Mor metro station on Tuesday after CISF officials detected the pistol inside his bag, police said. Bharat initially refused to accept that the pistol belonged to him. “It was not possible for anyone to place the pistol inside the bag as the keys were with him. However, later he accepted that the pistol was his and that he had put in his bag by mistake. “Since it was an unlicensed pistol he was arrested by the police and a case registered against him,” a senior police official said. Bharat belongs to Jalandhar in Punjab and works as a travel and tour operator in Dwarka. (PTI)

Three of a family injured in attack

NEW DELHI: Three persons of a family were injured when a group of people attacked their house in a village in outer Delhi area and eight persons have been arrested in this connection, police said on Wednesday. Acting on a specific information, police spotted a huge gathering of people who were pelting stones at the house of Rambiri in Harijan Basti Palla area. “They were carrying iron rods, lathis etc. in their hands and shouting…The family of Rambiri was attacked by the mob. Out of them 3 were badly injured,” a senior police official said. Police managed to rescue the injured persons. Eight people have been arrested in this connection. (PTI)

Three arrested for murder

NEW DELHI: Three youths were arrested here for allegedly killing a man during a robbery attempt in central Delhi, police said on Wednesday. The arrested have been identified as Ehteshyamuddin (19), Tarun (21) and Mohd Irfan (24). They had allegedly stabbed to death Chandan Gaur (25) near Delite Cinema on November five and decamped with his mobile phone and purse. The trio were apprehended from Turkman Gate area on Monday. One Mohd Irshad is absconding. (PTI)

18-year-old girl poisoned to death

BULANDSHAHR (UP): In a suspected case of honour killing, an 18-year-old girl was was allegedly poisoned to death by her two uncles, police said on Wednesday. Shilpi’s body was found in a car by the police during routine checking of vehicles on the road, SHO Chola, Ganesh Singh Chauhan said. The occupants of car, Dinesh and Hari, confessed to the police of having killed their niece, who was in love with a boy, Dharma, against their wishes. Police arrested both the accused, Chauhan said adding that the girl belonged to village Ferozepur under Police Station Chola here and her body was being carried by the accused to dump it somewhere. Tempo mows down shopkeeper

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old shopkeeper was killed when a tempo hit him from behind here, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place yesterday in north Delhi’s Subzi Mandi area and the deceased has been identified as Sanjay Aggarwal, a resident of Shaki Nagar. Sanjay sustained serious injuries and was declared brought dead at a hospital. Sanjay had gone to his shop in Sadar Bazar to take delivery of goods. The tempo driver fled after the accident but a witness noted down the registration number. (PTI)
