SHILLONG: The State police have arrested two KSU members and a cab driver for their involvement in the murder of one non-local labourer and abducting two others in Mawiong on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Additional Superintendent of Police (crime) Vivek Syiem said that the labourers were working in abattoir in Mawiong and they had come out of the construction site for buying their ration when they came across with the miscreants.

The arrested persons have been identified as as KSU-Mawiong unit vice-president Banker Nongkseh (21) alias ‘Heprit’, KSU Nongkwar unit finance secretary, Anthony Warbah alias ‘Bahhep’ and driver T Marngar.

It may be mentioned that five KSU members brutally assaulted three construction workers after they failed to produce any document of their citizenship.

The six miscreants picked up three non-local labourers from Mawiong in a Maruti local taxi on Tuesday at around 7.30pm and asked them to produce documents to prove their identities and on failing to do so, they took them to Mawlai Phudmuri and then headed towards Umbir (RB) where they assaulted them.

Another two members of the KSU involved in the incident are Mawiong unit president Damuyan Skhemiew and Nongkwar unit general secretary Wansit Thangkhiew who are yet to be arrested.

However, the villagers of Umbir apprehend the main accused and handed him over to police.

Out of the three non-local labourers, Prasanta Dehka from Dhubri, Assam died on the spot and Dekanta Bania was seriously injured and admitted to Nongpoh hospital.

The ASP said that Anand Hajong from Balat is still untraceable but police believes that he is in his home town.

The police has also seized the stone which was plunged at the victims and taxi (ML 05J 3739) used for abducting them

The police have registered a case of kidnapping, assault, dacoity and murder against the KSU members

The arrested persons have been remanded to 6 days police custody,” he said.

Syiem also lauded the Rangbah Shnong of Umbir village and its resident for helping the police in getting the arrest of the accused.
