Violent incidents pre-planned, says Kharkrang

SHILLONG:  The violent incidents perpetrated by a section of the crowd during the rally sponsored by the headmen on Thursday was “pre-planned and pre-mediated” and not by the spur of the moment.
This was stated by East Khasi Hills district police chief  M Kharkrang  here on Friday.
Police have registered cases against the violent protestors under various sections of Indian Penal code and Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order  (MMPO)Act.
According to Kharkrang, the police are on the job to identify the perpetrators of violence.
Earlier on Thursday, the IGP (Law and Order)  GHP Raju had said that as per the inputs of intelligence agencies, there were around  20 HYC volunteers behind  the violence. However, Kharkrang said that investigation was on to indentify the persons involved in the crime.
The SP said that besides stones, bottles were also thrown at the police personnel on duty  resulting  in injury to as many as 10 personnel including women.  Moreover, the protestors also destroyed the barricades put up by the police.
“We are yet to arrest anybody. We are in the process of identifying the persons. We will take legal action as per the law of the land”, the SP said.
Police have registered cases against the perpetrators of violence under IPC section 188 (disobedience to government order),   section 149 ( unlawful assembly) 353( Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 323 (for causing hurt ) and other sections. Police also registered case under section 6 A of MMPO Act for destruction of property.
