JOWAI: The State Government has reiterated that it would appeal against the NGT’s ban on rat hole mining in the State.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma gave this indication when a joint delegation of the MLAs from Jaintia Hills and members of Jaintia Hills Coal Miners’ and Dealers’ Association (JHCM&DA) met him here on Monday.
“He (Sangma) assured that the Government is going to appeal against the ban of the NGT,” JHCM&DA president Balios Swer said after the meeting.
Swer also said that the Chief Minister also told the delegation that the Government would set up committees both at the State and district level to make an assessment on the destruction of the environment due to rat hole mining.
“These committees will then submit the report to the State Government,” JHCM&DA president said.
Meanwhile, Swer informed that the association would be holding a public meeting at Teilang Phawa football ground, Dkhiah west, East Jaintia Hills to discuss the ban of the NGT on May 2 at 1 pm.
Among the MLAs who were part of the delegation include PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Hopeful Bamon, Comingone Ymbon and Justine Dkhar.
