Lajong finish 4th

SHILLONG: Tata Football Academy won the U-19 I-League in Jamshedpur on Tuesday by beating Hindustan FC 4-0 on the final day of the tournament, ending on 13 points.

Manipur lad Udanta Singh was the main attraction as the 18-year-old striker pumped in all four goals and was the sole threat throughout the game.

Udanta thus notched up nine goals in total from five games in the final round.

East Bengal forward Jiten Murmu is second on the list of scorers with seven goals from five outings.

Murmu scored an 18th minute goal against Shillong Lajong FC on Tuesday in the early match, leaving the junior Reds in fourth place in the table on six points.

The Shillong team won two games and lost three, in contrast to their performance in the North East Zone qualifiers, which they swept with a six-game winning record in February-March.

In the five final round matches, Zodingliana and Bipin Singh scored two goals each. Redeem Tlang, Angousana, Lalrammuana, Nim Dorjee Tamang and Rupert Nongrum scored one apiece.

Tuesday’s match was the first in which SLFC did not score a goal.

In the other fixture of the day, Sesa Football Academy beat the AIFF Navi Mumbai Academy 3-1.

Sesa thus finished in third place (nine points) behind runners-up East Bengal (10).

The Navi Mumbai Academy boys came fifth (also six points, but behind Lajong on head-to-head and goal difference), followed by Hindustan (zero).
