SHILLONG: The KHADC Executive Committee (EC) has decided to study the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order banning coal mining in the State.

“We would study the ruling before taking any decision,” KHADC CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said after an Executive Committee meeting here on Tuesday.

While asserting that the Council at the moment would not like to support or reject the ruling, he said that the KHADC was concerned about the welfare of the thousands of people who were directly or indirectly dependent on the coal mining activities for their livelihood.

Additional Judge : Meanwhile, Basaiawmoit informed that the EC had decided to appoint the senior-most magistrate as the additional judge of the Council.

“The matter was pending for the last three years. I am happy that we have managed to appoint the additional judge,” KHADC CEM said.
