SHILLONG: Shillong on Thursday got its first multiplex with the inauguration of ‘Galleria Anjalee Cinemas’. The multiplex has two screens with a combined seating capacity of 346.
The multiplex was inaugurated by Social Welfare Minister Deborah Marak after which the superhit Bollywood thriller Baby was screened.
The multiplex became possible in Shillong after Mridul Properties Pvt. Ltd. tied up with the owner of Anjalee Cinema.
Prakash Kumar Sanganeria, Director, Mridul Properties Pvt. Ltd., informed that the Galleria Anjalee Cinemas is equipped with state of the art Digital Dolby Sound with 2K projector technology and asserted that there would be further expansion with food court, gaming zone and restaurants. He also said that the morning shows would be shown at discounted prices.
He also said there would be facilities of service on seats, tele-booking and online booking in the multiplex.
Dhruba Das, Operations Manager, North East, Mridul Properties Pvt. Ltd., said that a place like Shillong should have had at least 2-3 multiplexes and added that the firm would open similar multiplexes in other towns of Meghalaya depending on the demand of the people.
It may be mentioned that Mridul Properties Pvt. Ltd. had introduced the mall culture in Guwahati under the brand name of HUB and the firm now has multiplexes in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
The select audience invited for the first show on Thursday were delighted to have a state of the art cinema closer home where they can watch a movie with family and friends.
“Normally we get to watch a movie in a multiplex only in Guwahati or Delhi, now we have it in our own city.
I only hope they manage to maintain the hall as it is today and that those who come and watch films also have a sense of aesthetics and cleanliness and don’t dirty the place with food crumbs,” said a senior Government official.
