SHILLONG: Condemnations have poured in from different branches of Seng Khasi after the Dorbar Shnong Madan Ing Syiem Mylliem prevented the cremation of an elderly, Kulam Nongrum, on August 11.
Ka Synjuk ki Samla Seng Khasi Ri Raid, Laban has condemned the “inhuman act of the Mylliem Dorbar Shnong”. In a press statement, they pointed out the right to practice any religion as enshrined in the Constitution of India. They questioned the Mylliem Dorbar on what ground the cremation was opposed.
Meanwhile, the Jylli Teilang ki Seng Kynthei Seng Khasi has condemned the action of the headman of Madan Ing Syiem Mylliem as he had shown complete lack of respect for the body of Nongrum by creating a disturbance during the funeral procession.
“Believers of the Khasi religion always show respect to the dead body, be it any race/caste or religion. It is forbidden for us to disturb or create problems while the dead body is being carried on its final journey,” they said.
