SHILLONG: While the 2019 Lok Sabha election is just a year away, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already started the scouting to find the suitable candidate for the elections.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, BJP leader and Cabinet Minister, A L Hek downplayed BJP’s poor performance in the recently-concluded Assembly polls saying if a party has not done well today, the same party can perform exceedingly well tomorrow.
“These turnaround happens in every political party and in every part of the country and so there is no issue, if we have not done well in the last elections,” Hek said
Stating that the NDA Government at the centre has done very well, he also expressed confidence that the BJP would do very well in the Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya and in the other North Eastern states.
He said that the party was looking to contest the Lok Sabha elections from both Shillong and Tura seats but they may have to adjust with their alliance partners for some political considerations and necessary details would be worked out
According to Hek, the party would have to strengthen organizational structure and they are already working on the strategy to improve the position of the party in the state.
He also said how the political parties would perform in the entire country during the Lok Sabha polls will be known only three months before the elections.
It may be mentioned that Congress’s Vincent Pala is the sitting MP from Shillong for last two terms while the Tura seat has been a bastion for late Purno Sangma family for a long time now.
Meanwhile, Hek also said that the BJP would contest the upcoming khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections scheduled to be held next year.
