SHILLONG: Latiplang Kharkongor, an executive member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), has directed the Syiem of Hima Mylliem not to appear for the hearing before the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) in Delhi on Wednesday.
“I have spoken to him (Pa’iem Ainam Manik Syiem) over the phone (and told him) not to appear before the Commission as the case is still pending with the court and no one can interfere in the matter that we have been speaking for the last 26 years,” Kharkongor told reporters on Tuesday.
The minorities panel summoned the Hima Mylliem to seek report on the recent violence at Iew Them Mawlong in June.
Kharkongor opposed the move of the Commission to summon the authorities concerned and said, “The KHADC is empowered by the Indian Constitution. If they (Commission) feel the need, they should come here on their own to find out more.”
