SHILLONG: Meghalaya will not follow the footsteps of  states like Goa and Chattisgarh which are already running behind schedule to host the National Games even though construction of the infrastructure for the  2022 National Games is yet to begin in the state.

“ We don’t want to follow other states like Goa and Chattisgarh  and we want to host the 2022  National Games as per the schedule,” Sports Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh said

Informing  that the Government has constituted several committees for the games, the Sports Minister added that the Government would expedite the whole process of organizing the mega event after the  Lok Sabha elections

“So far everything is going on smoothly,” he said even as he maintained that the Government had worked out its strategy and planning to ensure that the Games were held in the most satisfying manner.

The Government would also coordinate and work hand-in-hand with other departments to ensure that the Games would be held as per the timeline

It may mentioned that the 36th National Games in Goa has been postponed to a suitable date between September and October. The sports meet were earlier scheduled for March and April 14, 2019.
