Man hurt after eating burger
Pune: A 31-year-old man has lodged a police complaint alleging he found glass shards in his burger at an outlet of a well-known global fast food chain in Pune city of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday. The complainant, Sajid Pathan, an auto-rickshaw driver, went to the Burger King outlet located on Fergusson Road here on May 15 with his friends to have lunch. “According to the complainant, he ordered burgers, fries and col drinks and while having a bite,he suddenly felt something in the throat and also experienced a sharp pain,” an official at the Deccan Gymkhana police station said. Pathan alleged he received a bruise in his mouth and when he spat, there was blood in it, he said. When he checked the leftover burger in his hand, he found a piece of glass in it, the official said, quoting the complaint. When Pathan complained, the outlet’s staff came to his table, took away the tray along with the food items and asked him to rush to a hospital, the official said. The man claimed some part of the glass piece went into his stomach for which he was undergoing medical treatment. He approached the police on Sunday and lodged a complaint against the food outlet, the official said. (PTI)

Man held for killing transgender
Thane: A 38-year-old transgender was found brutally killed in her house with her body bearing multiple stab wounds in Kalyan city in Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday, adding that the accused has been arrested. The body of the victim, identified as Dhiraj Salve alias Reva Desai, was found to be in a highly decomposed condition, said a senior police official. A case has been registered under section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), a day after the body was found. The official said the victim’s body bore at least 40 stab wounds. The accused, identified as Sushil Bhalerao (25), was arrested from Mumbra in Thane district this morning. Bhalerao was in relationship with the deceased, the official said, adding that he might have killed the transgender as he used to suspect her fidelity. The incident came to light on Monday night when owner of the house was informed about foul smell emanating from the closed room locked in Katemanivli locality, according to the official. When the owner opened the door of the room, he found Desai lying in a pool of blood. Further investigation is underway. (PTI)

Woman drowns son in water tank
Kota (Rajasthan): A 35-year-old woman here allegedly drowned her six-month-old son in a water tank at her home, police said Tuesday. Deepika Gujjar claimed she got up from deep sleep, drowned the child and then resumed her sleep in the wee hours on Sunday, police said. She told police she didn’t know why she committed the crime. The woman, a resident of Saraswati Colony in the city, has been arrested under Section 302 of the IPC. According to police, she took the baby, Shiva, to the second floor of their three-storeyed house and drowned him in the water tank before resuming her sleep on the first floor. The incident came to light when her husband Sitaram Gujjar, who is a schoolteacher, found the boy missing around 1.30 am. The accused joined her husband Sitaram and mother-in-law Kelabai in the hunt for the child without disclosing the crime, police said. Her mother-in-law found the baby in the water tank. According to police, the matter reached them on Sunday afternoon but the woman continued misleading them till Monday afternoon. Later, she broke down during questioning and confessed to the crime, SHO Harendra Singh of the Borekheda police station said. The motive behind the crime was yet to be ascertained, the SHO added. Girl dies after falling into borewell
Jodhpur: Rescue workers Tuesday pulled out dead the four-year-old girl, who had slipped into a 440-feet deep borewell at a farm in Melana village of Jodhpur, officials said. Seema fell into the borewell at 5:30 pm on Monday and was stuck at a depth of 260-feet. The body was pulled out after a 14-hour operation and handed over to family members. “Despite all efforts we could not take out the girl alive. Her body was taken out at about 7.30 am”, Additional District Magistrate Mahipal Bhardwaj said. He said compensation of Rs. 1 lakh from the chief minister’s relief fund has been given to the parents of the girl. Initially, rescue teams could hear the cries of the girl but around midnight it stopped. Oxygen was being supplied through a pipe. After the rescue teams and officials came to the conclusion that the girl was no more, a rope with a tool attached to it was dropped in the borewell and the body pulled out. A tubewell at the farm had broken down on Monday afternoon and the father of the girl had taken the pump out for repairing, leaving the borewell open. (PTI)
