State govt should not soften its stand, says outfit

SHILLONG: The banned HNLC has threatened to take action against the people of Harijan Colony for giving deadline to the municipal board and government to withdraw the notices for inventory served to them.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, the proscribed outfit said that it has not seen any resolution of the Harijan Colony issue.
“The government should not soften its stance, as this kind of warning is a warning to the ‘Jaidbynriew’. The Harijan Colony as everyone knows is a den and full of criminals, drug addicts and thieves. No lady dares pass that way especially in the evenings. It looks like a ghetto that is occupied by illegal settlers. 70% of the people are illegal settlers. They are not even the employees of the municipal board. So the rights to stay there do not arise at all”, the HNLC said.
The outfit also pointed out that the residents of Harijan Colony have given away the houses on rent to many people from outside the state and are getting exorbitant rent.
The general secretary cum publicity secretary of HNLC Sainkupar Nongtraw pointed out that the off springs of residents of Harijan Colony are leading a lavish life.
“The panchayat should remember that we had eliminated Lal Singh years back in the heart of the city because of his character and his crimes. The government of Meghalaya should not pay any heed to the deadline, but it should immediately take action and identify the genuine and the illegal settlers”, the HNLC leader said.
The outfit also questioned the delay in settlement of the issue at a time when the state government has identified the land to relocate the people.
“This is not their land. They should be thankful that our people have patience. The interference of the Punjab government and its politicians time and again should not be entertained”, it said.
“We cannot claim their land in Punjab and they do not have the right to stake claim to own our land. This is a serious matter and the CM should take action to bring a solution. If the Harijan Panchayat Committee still challenges, then we shall have to resort to other means for a solution”, the HNLC said.
The outfit pointed out that the people of Harijan Colony may remain under the protection of security forces in Shillong but they should not forget that the members of the community are present across Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
“If they provoke, we will be compelled to attack their community without fail. Then the Harijan Panchayat Committee will shoulder the responsibility if any lives are lost”, the HNLC said.
The outfit also said that it has the support of people and it does not mind taking military action.
“This is not just a warning. When it comes to protecting the interests of our people, we shall press the trigger and their people will fall to our bullets”, the HNLC warned.
