CSWO rues appointment of tainted teachers

SHILLONG/Tura: The CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing has revealed that teachers who were tainted as per the CBI report were appointed by the government.
In a statement, Kharshiing said Ela Begum Laskar, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggre, West Garo Hills, has issued an order on March 4 2019 on the strength of a letter on October 5, 2018 which mentions “received from Jt. Director of School Education & Literacy, Tura, the following teachers are hereby allowed to continue as Assistant teachers on contract basis for 59 days with a break of 1 day with effect from March 3 2019 to April 30 in the scale of Pay Rs 24700/-58400/- P.M plus other allowances as admissible under the rule”.
In 2014, the service of 246 teachers was terminated, while service of some others who were in the CBI report, where their scores had over writing, was not terminated but enjoyed the salary from the government till 2018.
The service of another 10 teachers was terminated by the Sub Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggiri, West Garo Hills,. Ela Begum Laskar, as per the direction from the Director of School Education and Literacy, Meghalaya Shillong through the letter on August 29, 20 18, and these names were also in the CBI Enquiry report where in their names were having overwriting in their scores.
The CSWO questioned as to how the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggre, West Garo Hills, has issued an order on March 4 , 2019 on the strength of a letter dated October 5 , 2018 by Joint Director, when the orders for service termination was by the Director.
“The Joint Director cannot issue any order without the consent of the competent authority to appoint any teacher to any government school or to re-appoint any teacher whose service was terminated”, Kharshiing said.
GSU unhappy
The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Western Zone North, Dadenggre has expressed resentment over the recent order promoting former Dadenggre SDSEO as the principal of Dadenggre Puri Government Higher secondary School.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the union raised questions over the newly-appointed principal’s performance as the SDSEO and has urged the government to revoke the order immediately.
“She should be posted somewhere else and not in Dadenggre. We will be compelled to take up democratic agitation if our demands are not fulfilled,” GSU Publicity secretary, Dimbert Sangma said.
