Bike-borne robbers make off with Rs 70,000
Ghaziabad: A collection agent of a bank was robbed of Rs 70,000 at gunpoint by two bike-borne men here on Monday morning, police said. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rakesh Mishra said Uttam Goel, a collection agent with Syndicate Bank and resident of Farukh Nagar, was on his way to the bank with the collected money when the robbers targeted him. As he boarded an auto-rickshaw, two bike-borne robbers waylaid the vehicle and tried to snatch his bag at gunpoint. When Goel resisted, the accused hit him on his head with the butt of the pistol and fled with the bag containing Rs 70,000 in cash, Mishra said, adding that it seemed that the accused were locals who knew about the victim’s work. Inter-state gang stealing trucks busted
Aurangabad: Six members of an inter-state gang stealing heavy-duty tipper trucks and selling them in several parts of the country were arrested in Aurangabad district in Maharashtra, police said on Monday. Superintendent of Police Mokshada Patil identified them as local resident Shivaji Lahire (26), his Nashik-based relative Mahesh Birute (38), and ring leader Abdul Kaleem (40) from Surat in Gujarat. Divakar Eknath Chavan (22) and Subneshkumar Bhatia (26) use to steal the trucks from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, while Mohammad Istikhan would deactivate the GPS and other equipment in them, Patil added. Lahire was held two days ago and his questioning led to the arrest of five others on Sunday, Patil informed. “They would sell the trucks across the country with forged documents and fake numbers. We started a probe after a truck theft case was registered on February 11 in Vaijapur police station,” the SP said. (PTI)
Student dies of shock after shoplifting
Hyderabad: A college student died under suspicious circumstances at a leading supermarket here on Sunday night after he was allegedly found stealing a chocolate. L. Sateesh, 17, a Class 12 private college student from Vanasthalipuram, along with his two friends had gone to the supermarket to buy chocolates. According to Sateesh’s friends he lifted a chocolate and kept it in his pocket. This was noticed by a security guard. When the teenager was leaving the supermarket with his friends, the security guard called him. He panicked and threw the chocolate. When the security guard frisked him, he did not find chocolate. Eye-witnesses said he suddenly fell on the security guard and collapsed. Sateesh’s friends shifted him to a hospital, where he was declared dead. They said the security guard did not attack him and suspect that he might have collapsed due to the shock of being caught for stealing. The boy’s family members alleged that he died due to the assault by the security personnel of the supermarket. They staged a protest at the supermarket demanding justice. Police shifted the body for autopsy and launched an investigation. (IANS)
Man in pick-up truck beaten to death
Seoni (MP): A 24-year-old man in a pick-up truck was beaten to death allegedly by three youths on motorcycles after an altercation on a road in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Monday. The pick-up truck in which Jamiruddin Khan was traveling overtook the motorcycles of Neetesh Uike (22), Ajay Markam (19) and Anshul Gajbhiye (19) on Sunday night after which an argument ensued, Dundaseoni police station in charge Vilas Dani said. “When the pick-up truck driver Salman Khan overtook the two-wheelers, one of them fell after being thrown off balance. The youths followed the truck, stopped it near Selua Ghati and beat up Salman and Jamiruddin. Jamiruddin died en route to hospital,” Dani said. The motorcycle-borne youth were coming from Barghat while the truck was headed to Seoni from Gondia. (PTI)
Maoist camp destroyed in Odisha
Malkangiri (Odisha): A Maoist camp wasdestroyed by security forces in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Monday following a heavy gunfight, officials said. The gunbattle took place inside a dense forest in the Mudulipada area after commandos of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and the Special Operation Group (SOG) launched a combing and search operation on Saturday, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Rishikesh D Khilari said. The operation was launched following a tip-off about the movement of around 30 Maoists in the Bondapada-Sambalpur forest, he said. The Maoists fired at the commandos, following which the security forces retaliated, Khilari said, adding that the ultras, however, managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness and difficult terrain.
