Residents irked over delay in project
MAWKYRWAT: Residents of three villages — Sarin, Nongkynbah and Nongpdeng Kenbah — in South West Khasi Hills have been peeved at the delay of over two years in completing the construction of the 12-km road which was entrusted to M/S Bhawani Construction and Company, Madhubani. The Rangbah Shnong of Sarin village, Blossding Wanniang, informed that deadline for completion of the Sarin-Nongkynbah road was January 2019. At first the people of the three villages were very happy after the government approved the blacktopping of the 12-km road at the cost of Rs 7.40 crore, the Rangbah Shnong said. “A road roller had fallen into a canal and has been left there for over 9 months,” Wanniang said adding that the rainwater is blocked by the road roller and the road has thus developed pot holes. The villagers have threatened to sell the road roller as scrap if the company does not extract it out of the canal.
