TURA: Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma has been urged to look into the problem of deplorable road condition in South Garo Hills as well as the prevailing water crisis in Baghmara Town, the district’s headquarters.
The District Youth Congress which submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister has lamented that a particular stretch of road which was allotted to JC Construction to carry out repairs has been lying without any kind of work being started although work order for the same has been given on March 5, 2014. The road in question is the 29 km stretch of road which connects NH-51 in West Garo Hills and NH-62 in South Garo Hills.
The Youth Congress had urged Sangma to direct the department and company concerned to speed up the repairing work for the convenience of the general public.
On the problem of water crisis in Baghmara Town, the youth congress said that it was due to regular leakage of supply pipes beginning from Rongdong to Baghmara, breaking down of pumping machines located near Baghmara Police Station, shortage of pumping machines and unavailability of an expert to repair the damaged machines.
In this regard, the youth congress requested the appointment of a technical expert to look after the machines, provision of sufficient pumping machines and commissioning phase II of Rongdong-Baghmara water supply project at the earliest.
It also proposed the tapping of other water sources like the Dabit and Karwani rivers to temporarily minimize the demand-supply gap.
