Customs raid in Police Bazar

In a raid at a restaurant in Police Bazar on Feb 25, the Excise and Customs Department has seized contraband goods and currency worth Rs. 4.68 lakhs. According to official sources, the seized goods include Indian currency of Rs. 3.55 lakhs suspected to be sale proceeds of smuggled goods, two gold biscuits and ornaments weight 31 tolas, VCR, foreign TV and video cassettes worth over Rs. 43,600.

 Two persons, wife and son of the restaurant owner, were arrested and later released on P.R.Bond. The owner was out of station on that day.

The Customs department confiscated miscellaneous goods worth Rs. 30,000 from a Bhutanese vehicle at Byrnihat. The vehicle has also been seized.
