Los Angeles: Their on-screen shenanigans gave ‘American Idol’ it’s record breaking ratings and now Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul are reuniting on the judging panel of the new reality TV show ‘X-Factor USA’.

Abdul, whose meandering speeches on ‘Idol’ stoked speculation that she was high while shooting, came on board the show at the last minute, reported People magazine online.

“We almost weren’t going to do the show,” Cowell said. The 49-year-old singer finally finished negotiations and signed her contract at 11 am, delaying the first day of filming today.

Abdul kept fellow judges, British popstar Cheryl Cole, Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid and Cowell waiting on the first day of live auditions as she deliberated, but finally signed on the dotted line.

Despite rumours Mariah Carey or hip-hop star Nicki Minaj would take part in the series, Cowell persevered in recruiting Abdul.

Though widely expected, confirmation of Abdul was held up as negotiations continued until Sunday morning. (PTI)
