Bhubaneswar: Orissa Agriculture, Cooperation, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Dr Damodar Rout, embroiled in a controversy over the use of word ”harijan” at a public meeting in his home district in Jagatsinghpur in the past, has resigned from the post.
When contacted Dr Rout said he sent in his resignation on Monday to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the latter’s advice and refused to say anything.
Dr Rout was a senior Cabinet Minister in the Naveen Patnaik government and also considered as the seniormost leader in the Biju Janata Dal, who had served as party’s secretary general post for several years and was also a spokesmen for the party in the past.

Sources said the Chief Minister asked Dr Rout to resign from the post as he had been facing a case in the court of law for his utterance the word ”harijan” at a public meeting. (IANS)
