SHILLONG: The rift in the ruling Congress party, which is yet to die down even after a Cabinet reshuffle, has taken its toll among others the much-needed introduction of the 120 JNNURM buses in the city.

The proposal for launching of the bus service was delayed since no Cabinet meeting took place in the last two months, according to sources in the Urban Affairs department.

The Cabinet, which hold its first meeting after a long gap of two months on Tuesday, is expected to take up the report on the bus service very soon keeping in mind the growing demand for buses in view of the ever-growing traffic congestion, sources said.

The Chief Minister had earlier sought a report from the Urban Affairs department on the delay of introducing the JNNURM buses.

However, official sources claimed most of the work has been done and the only thing pending is the Cabinet approval.

Ampareen Lyngdoh, who has been given the additional charge of Urban Affairs on Tuesday, has said she would take up the matter for early introduction of the JNNURM buses.
