SHILLONG: Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh on Wednesday asserted that the State Police would take all steps to wipe out the GNLA and that the police are well equipped for the job.
“We are going to face them (GNLA) with all our strength and they would be finished off,” Lyngdoh said on Wednesday while reacting to the outfit’s reported claim that the recent ambush on June 4 in East Garo Hills was part of its “reverse operation” against the police.
The Home Minister also said the State police are well equipped and well armed to fight against the militant outfit.
Earlier, the GNLA even alleged that the police’s anti-dacoity camps were nothing but centres of extortion truckers and other vehicles.
“In the name of anti-dacoity camps, the policemen used to charge money from truckers and involved in other illegal activities,” the GNLA alleged.
The Home Minister would visit all the three districts of Garo Hills next week to assess the law and order situation in the region.
Meanwhile, the State Police ordered a departmental inquiry into the June 4 ambush.
Lyngdoh said the State Government is still awaiting response from the Centre on the State’s request for five additional companies of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police to assist the State police in counter-insurgency operations in Garo Hills.
