SHILLONG: The Ri-Bhoi District Congress has claimed that its members prevented Umroi MLA Stanlywiss Rymbai from attending the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday since “he was trying to betray DD Lapang”.

“After we learnt that Rymbai was planning to betray the former chief minister senior party members of the district rushed to his house at Umroi early in the morning to prevent him from attending the ceremony,” a senior member of the party from Ri-Bhoi district told reporters on Wednesday.

“Rymbai had won the election only because of the efforts of Lapang. He (Rymbai) cannot betray the former chief minister in this manner,” the Congress leader said.

Party members from across the district are angry with Rymbai for his move to join the Mukul Sangma Cabinet, he said.
